
Karch Kiraly and a roomful of volleyball luminaries gathered in Irvine, California, on Saturday to have a good time the lifetime of former USA participant Byron Shewman, who died in August.
The night doubled as a fundraiser for Starlings Volleyball USA, a nationwide juniors’ membership that Shewman co-founded in 1996 with two-time USA Olympian Kim Oden.

“It was a tremendous occasion,” stated Oden, captain of the U.S.’s 1992 Olympic bronze medal group and chair of the Starlings Government Board. “To consider the caliber of participant who was right here tonight is simply mind-boggling. And Byron is the thread that drew all people collectively.
“There have been tears. There have been nice tales. There was quite a lot of respect. It was extraordinarily touching, and it makes me proud to be concerned with Starlings.”
Among the many indoor and seashore standouts who attended had been Danny Patterson, Rudy Suwara, Duncan McFarland, Rose Ann Duncan, Ed Becker, Jon Roberts, Jon Lee, Larry Milliken, Jay Hanseth, Ed Machado, Don Shaw, Hillary Johnson and Marc Jacobs.
Starlings, at the moment headed by govt director Megan Kennedy, who performed indoor volleyball at BYU, offers 1000’s of underserved ladies the chance to play volleyball. The non-profit at the moment has greater than 3,300 children collaborating in 27 states all through the nation.
“Byron beloved Starlings,” Oden stated. “And the entire individuals right here tonight helped the group maintain itself through the years.”
